This Friday the Illustrious University Council (ICU) of the Santa Cruz state university met. At the meeting it was approved that the On May 24, the elections of new delegates to this highest decision-making body are held from the Autonomous University Gabriel René Moreno (Uagrm).
A week ago, the rector of the Uagrm, Vicente Cuéllar, publicly indicated that the current ICU delegates ceased their functions; however, these were not notified and indicated that the statement had no legal basis.
While surprisingly, this week the call for the first ICU session of the year was issued. The call was Signed by the vice president of this organ of co-government, Eliodoro Méndez.
The student delegate to the ICU, Adhemar Torrico indicated that the rector, in a legal report presented to the University Electoral Court, indicates that everything that the current ICU delegates approve from September 23 until being formally and legally notified by the Court, will be valid.
“MAs long as they don’t notify us, we will continue working. Apart from the public declaration of the rector, the rereality is that there is no notification and no document indicating that we cease our functions“, he remarked.
Torrico added that the ICU from the Last year it already approved that the delegate elections be held after the rector elections. “If the ICU delegate elections were not held last year, it is because of the rector and if they are not held in May, it will also be because of him,” he considered.
After the complete promulgation of the last University Organic Statute, it is expected that students and teachers will also attend this year to vote in a referendum to define whether or not the rector continues as president of the ICU, among other questions.
