SANTO DOMINGO.– A court in Santo Domingo Este imposed three months of preventive detention against a man whom the Public Ministry accuses of spraying his partner with a substance that burned 90% of his body in Villa Mella.
Judge Bernardo Coplín, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of that jurisdiction, sent Yoel Leiba Correa to the La Victoria detention center.
The Public Ministry requested the measure of coercion against the accused, 42 years old, for the attacks against Ana Poland Martinez, 41.
The file implemented by the investigative prosecutor Bienvenido Polanco establishes that on May 6, around 1:00 in the morning, the victim screamed for help, so she was helped by neighbors and a sister who lives nearby.
She adds that they found her lying on the floor and crying out that they would not let her die.
The criminal prosecution body presented before the court various elements that compromise the responsibility of Leiba Correa, whose acts qualify as attempted murder, in violation of articles 2, 295, 304, 309-1, 309-2 and 309-3 of the Penal Code, modified by Law 24-97, on domestic or intra-family violence.
