To explode your emotions

Bombas de arena, an audiovisual that promises to touch the sensitive fibers of those who see it, is the proposal of the young director Keiter Castillo Santana, who was the winner — along with all his staff — of the third call of the Cuban Film Promotion Fund (FFCC ) with this “explosive” animation.

About this and the process that currently occupies him, he spoke with Cubacine:

The history

Bombas de arena tells the story of two children from the Middle East who live in a ruined building, in a city totally destroyed by warfare. It is an anime, but my intention is not that it is for children. At first it was difficult for me to bring up the subject of death at such an early age, but it may be surprising the level of understanding that a child has on this matter.

This work is my way of saying that I do not agree with anything that puts life at risk, and even less if it is that of a child, regardless of the nationality. Overall, it’s a nerve-wracking project, but the world must realize what our society is doing to itself.

Animate the sad

Doing it in animation gave me the possibility of being and telling the story in the precise place where I saw it when writing it. The magic and the freedom of not repressing myself for logistics or production issues were only provided by the animation.

I discovered this path of anime not long ago, after taking my first steps I realized that it was a beautiful and untethered way to carry out my projects. Now I think of everything in animated.

A push

Winning this third round of the Fund really surprised me. I remember not knowing whether to introduce myself and I was specifying the project folder until the last moment. But in the end it was worth it, because being one of those selected filled me with joy, and not only me, but all of us who are behind this dream.

Our team is still small, for the expectations we have, which are to achieve an animation movement in our city of Camagüey. We are a series of crazy about cartoons and stories that can be told. We come from many different trades but that unites us: animation.

The way

The first destination that Sand Bombs will have will be concrete: to carry the message of history beyond our borders. We also plan to appear in the circuit of national and international festivals and events, in addition to promoting animation within the national territory.
