Tite: "A team is not more offensive for having three strikers"

The Brazilian coachTite‘ admitted that he fielded a team with more attacking men on Tuesday because he needed to experience new players and game systems to prepare the team that will go to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, but that in decisive games he has to think about balance and counting also with a strong defense.

“I don’t believe much in that the team is more offensive because it has three strikers. I see football as a balance. Those offensive players can only create if they have a livelihood behind,” he said at a post-match press conference.

“A balanced team takes possession of the ball more times. I do not conceive of football in which the pieces do not have harmony,” added the coach.

Brazil thrashed Paraguay with a team that had three young attackers (Vinicius Junior, Matheus Cunha and Raphinha) and two creative midfielders (Lucas Paquetá and Philippe Coutinho) and only one midfielder (Fred). In the second half other young forwards like Rodrygo and Antony entered.

The coach argued that, more than an offensive team, Tuesday’s victory was guaranteed by harmony, since the defense contributed to the attack with assists like those that Marquinhos offered for the first two goals, and by inspiration.

“When we have games in which we are inspired like today, that fluidity and the results are produced,” said the coach, who this Tuesday completed 70 games in charge of Canarinha, in which he has accumulated 51 wins, 14 draws and only 5 losses.

The youngsters Raphinha, Antony and Rodrygo stood out

Brazil, already qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup and which left Paraguay without any chance of advancing, won this Tuesday with goals from the young attacking players Raphinha, Antony and Rodrygo, who are looking for places on the list of those summoned to Qatar, and with another from veteran midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

With their new victory, Brazil now has twelve wins and three draws in fifteen qualifying games, with which it has 39 points, four more than Argentina, its closest rival.

Paraguay, on the other hand, was sunk in penultimate place in the classification of the South American qualifiers, with 13 points, and no chance of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar or advancing to a possible playoff.
