The practice of pointing one’s genitals at the sun has grown thanks to the recommendations of some content creators on TikTok.

Supposedly, these positions “raise vibrations” and will have positive impacts both energetically and physically. However, health specialists do not recommend it.

Exposing the pelvic area to the sun

This new and controversial “wellness practice” consists of positioning the body in such a way that the pelvic area or our genitals point towards the sun.

It can be done while standing or sitting, it doesn’t matter: the important thing is that the sunlight hits the area for a certain period of time.

As these influencers suggest, time should be short. And the result would be “improving concentration, creativity, even sleep.” The perineal area needs “natural energy” and this is promoted by the sun: “It favors bone health, reduces blood pressure and promotes incredible mental health,” commented one of the influencers.

There are several people who practice and recommend this activity. And the videos have millions of views.

“Why wouldn’t you sunbathe on the most vital area of your body? The more you hide your body part from the sun, the weaker it will be”, is the argument of @PaulyLong.

She published a video in which he appears with his wife on his back and with his legs in the air doing the practice. This video got around 8 million views.

It is not healthy to expose the genitals to the sun

The technique has become so viral that it even has its own hashtag called #perineumsunning, which is regularly visited by many users, some to laugh and others to promote it.

Doctors and experts say that there is no evidence that exposing the genitals and perineal area to the sun improves our health and physical well-being.

Dr Diana Gall told Vice: “Yes, practicing mindfulness and meditation, and getting your dose of vitamin D, is beneficial for mental and physical health, but you don’t need to damage your skin in the process of sun exposure. ”.

Exposing the skin directly to the sun can increase the risk of cancer, he added. Another female doctor also commented on the case, saying, “This is a classic example of medical misinformation on social media that, in some cases, can be harmful or dangerous.”
