During a military stability operation in the rural area of the department of Vichada, soldiers of Brigade 28 of the National Army recovered a youth copy of Tigrillo female (Leopardus Pardalis), a wild species considered in danger of extinction.
The operation was developed in the inspection of Santa Rita, where an inhabitant of the region voluntarily delivered the animal.
“He informed that he had been orphaned after his mother was hunted by unscrupulous people who develop illegal activities against wildlife,” said spokesmen of the National Army.
The case was reported by the same community, which allowed a rapid intervention of the troops.
He was transferred by helicopter to receive veterinary care
After its rescue, the little tigrillo was protected by the soldiers and transported in a military helicopter to the municipality of Cumaribo. From there, he was taken to the city of Yopal, in the department of Casanare.
There he was delivered to the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Orinoquía (Corporinoquia), an entity in charge of environmental conservation in that region of the country.
The feline received specialized veterinary attention from wildlife experts. Its recovery will be carried out under strict protocols to guarantee their well -being and eventual reintegration to its natural habitat.
“This action shows the firm commitment of the National Army not only with the defense of life and security, but also with the preservation of ecosystems and the protection of Colombian biodiversity,” they concluded.
