A tiger tore off the hand of a caretaker and attacked two other people in a safari park near Tokyo, Japanese media reported Wednesday.
The attack of the tiger, a 10-year-old Bengal male that is about two meters long and weighs 150 kilograms, occurred in the morning in the Nasu Safari Park, Tochigi prefecture, the Kyodo agency reported.

The park operator said the tiger was not in its fenced enclosure as expected.
Instead, the caretakers met him in a hallway leading to an exhibition area and were attacked, according to the media.
The caregiver who lost her hand, a woman in her 20s, was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital, according to Kyodo, who said another woman was bitten in several places and a man was injured in the back of the head.

They were also taken to the hospital.
The Nasu Safari Park offers tours on special buses and for customers in their own cars to see its 700 animals, including giraffes and elephants.
