Tigre won this Monday by 1-0 to Colón and got into the qualifying zone for the quarterfinals at the end of the fifth day of the Professional Football League Cup. Colón wasted the possibility of reaching the top of Zone B to Estudiantes de La Plata, who tied 1-1 against Vélez on Sunday. El Pincha leads with 13 points, Colón follows with ten and then come Tigre and Huracán, with nine. El Matador was clearly deserving of victory and won thanks to a goal from Alexis Castro.
Two other games corresponding to Zone B were also played this Monday: Independiente and Godoy Cruz tied 3-3 and Arsenal and Lanús 2-2. Independiente was three times down on the scoreboard and three times managed to reach equality. El Rojo was seventh with six points, three away from the qualifying zone for the quarterfinals, and Godoy Cruz was twelfth out of 14 teams, with five units. Lanús and Arsenal also reached five points by drawing 2-2. Garnet was 0-2 up on the scoreboard, but failed to maintain the lead.
The four leaders of Zone A
River Plate, Defense and Justice, Union and Sarmiento lead zone A with ten points. They are followed by Racing Club and Newell’s with nine and Banfield and Argentinos Juniors with eight. San Lorenzo, with only two points, is the only one of the so-called ‘big five of Argentina’ that has not yet won in the tournament.
On this fifth day River Plate beat San Lorenzo 0-1, Racing Club beat Talleres 1-0, Boca Juniors lost to Huracán 0-1 and Estudiantes and Vélez equalized 1-1.
