Garbiñe Muguruza and Diego Schwartzman were eliminated this Wednesday from the Eastbourne tournament, while the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia achieved her 12th consecutive victory on the grass-court tour.

The Spanish tennis player, 10th player in the world, lost against the Italian Camila Giorgi (26th WTA) by 7-5 and 6-3 in the third round of the tournament that takes place in England, in the 500 category in the women’s draw.

This is another blow for the two-time Grand Slam champion after her early exit in her last tournaments, such as Roland Garros (first round) or Rome (second round).

Muguruza’s losing streak contrasts with that of Haddad Maia who, after winning the tournaments in Nottingham and Birmingham, remains unbeaten on the grass-court tour and this Wednesday achieved his 12th consecutive win.

Bia qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating the British Jodie Burrage (169th) by a clear 6-1 and 6-2, who in the previous round had eliminated the Spanish Paula Badosa (4th), first head of series.

The Brazilian’s next rival will be the Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, currently 114th in the world.

In the men’s draw, Argentine Diego Schwartzman, 15th in the ATP ranking, lost to local Jack Draper in an even match 7-5 and 7-6(3).

This defeat means that the ‘Peque’, who lost his debut last week at Queen’s, will arrive at Wimbledon without having won a match on grass.
