Through a mobile hospital, more than 12,000 patients have been treated in Casanare

One of the government’s main bets in Casanare is the health sector.

Given the critical situation of the health system that exists in Colombia, the governor of Casanare, César Ortiz Zorro, has implemented an alternative to ensure that medical services reach every corner of the department. This is the “Medical Surgical Conference”, a project that has given life to a mobile hospital capable of overcoming the barriers of distance and lack of infrastructure.

The objective of this model is to provide specialized medical care in areas where hospitals do not exist and specialist doctors do not reach. Through mobile operating rooms and the presence of professionals in 15 specialties, the sessions have already benefited more than 12,000 residents of Casanare. Municipalities such as Trinidad and Orocué have witnessed this strategy that has benefited peasant communities, indigenous people and families in the region.

“Bringing health to the countryside is a promise I made since I was a child,” says Governor Zorro.who reveals that his motivation for this project has personal roots. More than two decades ago, a medical brigade in his hometown, El Tablón de Támara, restored mobility to his hand after an accident.

The reactivation of 74 rural health posts has also been managed, of which 24 already have secured resources. In addition, $23 billion has been allocated for the construction of the Health Center in Maní, a key project to expand coverage and improve medical services in the region.

Another significant achievement is the acquisition of 16 new ambulanceswhich guarantees a rapid response in emergencies, even in the most remote areas. With this traveling hospital project, Casanare is not only facing a health crisis, but is building a model of inclusion that could inspire the rest of the country.
