Three years after the fatal death of Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant

Havana Cuba. – This Thursday marks the third anniversary of tragic accident in which basketball player Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and six other crew members of the helicopter that crashed on January 26, 2020 in the Californian town of Calabasas, lost their lives. That morning the world was shocked by the news and for days the tributes to one of the best basketball athletes of all time did not stop.

Born in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Bryant was signed in 1996 by the Charlotte Hornets and was immediately transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers, in California, with whom he played 20 leagues in the nba. Along with another legend, Shaquille O’Neal, he led his team to three straight wins (2000, 2001 and 2002). After O’Neal’s departure, Kobe was left alone in the star player category, setting several records as the leading scorer and leading the Lakers to two more championships in 2009 and 2010.

From then on, injuries significantly hampered his performance, which is why he announced his retirement from basketball once the 2015-2016 season was over.

His legacy to basketball is monumental. Bryant ranks fourth on the list of leading scorers in NBA history, both in the regular season and in play offs. Among the peaks of his career is the clash against the Toronto Raptors (2006), where he established the second best mark in NBA history, with 81 points, only surpassed by the hundred scored by Wilt Chamberlain, in 1962. .

Kobe Bryant was the youngest player to reach 28,000 points, twice MVP, top scorer in All-Star Game history, Olympic champion in Beijing and London, and a very long, substantial record that led the NBA to withdraw the numbers 8 and 24, numbers that the “black Mamba” proudly wore throughout two decades dedicated to basketball.
