Three Uruguayan tourists die due to a mudslide in southern Argentina

Three deceased has left a mudslide that dragged various materials in a local hotel Argentina from Bariloche, in the Patagonian province of Río Negro.

During the early hours of this Wednesday, the bodies of the two Uruguayan tourists who were being intensely searched since the incident occurred in the hotel located on Avenida Bustillo in the Villa Huinid complex were found, according to a statement from the provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The first deceased was also a native of Uruguay and had been trapped inside one of the two hotel rooms. His body was found on Tuesday.

The mudslide dragged various materials on Monday afternoon, including those of a retaining wall, several pine trees, branches, earth and others. According to an official note, both the Embassy of Uruguay and the Consulate General of Uruguay in Argentina are in direct contact with the families of the victims. The District Consul, Sophia Grilli, will travel to Bariloche “to be able to accompany the relatives in person, and before the local authorities to expedite the pertinent procedures and act as a link between the competent and aforementioned agencies,” he said in a statement this Tuesday the Uruguayan Embassy.

The note added that the ambassador, Carlos Enciso, is in direct communication with the local authorities to remain available and contribute everything that is within the reach of the diplomatic representation.

Although the causes of this avalanche are still being investigated, the Government of Río Negro had issued a climate alert for snowfall and gusts of wind that could reach 75 kilometers per hour.
