Three provinces under alert for strong storms and five for intense heat

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for strong storms with gusts and occasional hail for sectors of the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa and Córdoba, and another in orange due to extreme temperatures due to heat for towns in Misiones, Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco and Salta..

In the center of the country, the areas affected by storms of varying intensity, some of which may be locally strong, are the south of Córdoba, the north of La Pampa and almost all of the province of Buenos Aires, in towns such as Azul, Rauch, Tandil , Ayacucho, Necochea and Loberia.

In these areas, accumulated precipitation values ​​between 20 and 45 mm are expected, which may be exceeded in a timely manner, as predicted by the SMN.

According to the SMN, The areas will be affected by storms that will be accompanied by intense gusts, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and abundant rainfall in short periods..

Among the recommendations, the meteorological agency asked the inhabitants not to take out the garbage; avoid outdoor activities; do not take shelter near trees and electricity poles; not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools to minimize the risk of being struck by lightning; stay away from electrical appliances and avoid using corded phones.

On the other hand, the agency issued an orange alert at 6:00 p.m. due to extreme temperatures for western Formosa and northwest Corrientes.

The orange level implies intense heat with a “moderate to high health” effect that can be “very dangerous”, especially for risk groups.

Also, Yellow alerts are in effect due to high temperatures for the entire province of Misiones and Formosa, a large part of Corrientes, the northwest of Salta and the southwest of Chaco in locations such as 12 de Octubre, 2 de Abril, 9 de Julio, Chacabuco, Fray J. Maria de Oro, Mayor LJ Fontana, O Higgins and San Lorenzo.

These areas are under weather warning for temperatures that “can be dangerous, especially for risk groups, such as boys and girls, people over 65, with chronic diseases.”

Finally, the SMN recommended that the inhabitants of these areas stay hydrated, not expose themselves to high temperatures, avoid physical activity, and wear light and light-colored clothing.

He also asked to avoid caffeinated, alcoholic or highly sugary drinks, eat vegetables and fruits, avoid large meals and pay attention to babies, children and the elderly.
