Three people are arrested with 321 packages of alleged cocaine in Barahona

In a joint operation that lasted more than 20 hours, the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), the Dominican Republic Navy, the Air Force and State intelligence agencies, coordinated by members of the Public ministrywithin the framework of the reinforcement of the fight against drug trafficking, seized 321 packages presumably cocaine and ten bales of a vegetable that appears to be marijuana, in the middle of an operation carried out on the coast of the province of Barahona.

The tactical and reaction units, attending to reports of intelligencemounted an air, land and sea interdiction operation against several individuals who, aboard a speedboat, intended to introduce into Dominican territory a considerable amount of alleged controlled substances.

Hours after the persecution began, police officers DNCD and members of the Navy, intercepted on the high seas, a boat with an outboard motor, without registration or name, about 23 feet in length, several nautical miles south of the municipality of Enriquillo.

Upon boarding the boat, which is presumed to have tried to reach the Dominican coast from South America, three men, two Venezuelans and one Dominican, were arrested and 15 bales of a substance presumed to be cocaine were confiscated, as well as ten packages of a vegetable that appears to be marijuana.

In the operation, a 5.56 caliber rifle was seized, with two chargers and several capsules, three cell phones, a satellite phone, two GPS, 18 fuel jugs, among other evidence.

The DNCD highlights the support of the Navy, the Air Force, the Attorney General’s Office and other agencies of the Dominican State, cooperation that has been decisive in continuing to hit the drug trafficking networks that try to use our territory for their illicit activities.

“The Public Ministry and the DNCD, deepen the investigations in relation to the case, while the detainees are already in the hands of the Public Ministry of the jurisdiction of Barahona, to be brought to justice in the next few hours for violation of law 50-88 , about drugs and controlled substances”

The 321 packages, occupied in this new operation, were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) that will determine the exact type and weight.
