Three patients have died from Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome

A total of 47 cases of Hantavirus disease have been registered so far this year, up to epidemiological week No. 45, reported the Ministry of Health (Minsa), noting that of these 27 cases have been classified as Cardiopulmonary Syndrome by Hantavirus and 20 for Hantavirus fever.

The authorities revealed that of the 27 confirmed cases, 24 overcame the disease and unfortunately three people died from Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome. The last death was registered in Soná de Veraguas, a 29-year-old patient. The 20 cases of Hantavirus Fever have overcome the disease.

The Minsa report revealed that the cases of Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome are mainly reported in the province of Los Santos, where the highest rate of confirmed cases is reflected; They are followed with confirmed cases by the Health regions of Herrera, Coclé, Panamá Oeste and Veraguas.

For its part, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) highlights that hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome is transmitted by inhalation of saliva, urine, or excreta from infected rodents.

Some of the symptoms include: fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, especially in the thighs, hips, and back. Headaches, dizziness, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain also occur. Four to 10 days after the initial phase of the illness, symptoms include cough and severe dyspnea, requiring intensive care. It can cause death.
