White smoke will rise, and the outlook will be clearer and free of speculation. Leaders of Popular Force, Keiko Fujimori; of the Alliance for Progress (APP), César Acuña; and of Peru Libre, Waldemar Cerrón, together with the members of their benches, will elect their candidates for the Board of Directors (MD) on Monday night.
The Fuerza Popular party, together with its party leader, will meet tomorrow night to elect its candidate for the presidency or vice presidency of the next MD.
The conclave would be held in a building in Cercado de Lima.
Last Friday, the vice president of Congress and member of the orange bench, Arturo Alegría, told Peru21 that his group will not renounce the nomination of a candidate for the presidency or vice-presidency of the board.
“Fuerza Popular has the credentials to preside over it,” said Alegría.
Congressman Alejandro Aguinaga, from the party, said that they do not yet have a candidate for the MD, but he did not rule out that it could be “any” of the members of his group.
In our chronicle todayPatricia Juárez would have the consensus to be the representative to the vice presidency. However, the final decision would be made tomorrow.
In communication with Peru21the alternate spokesperson for the orange bench, Nilza Chacón, said this Sunday that Patricia Juárez “is a good candidate for either of the two options,” that is, for the presidency or the vice presidency of Congress.
APP: SALHUANA, CAMONES OR ELÍAS
In a conversation with the Trujillo press, César Acuña declared over the weekend that Lady Camones or Eduardo Salhuana would be his group’s candidates for the MD.
In an interview with this newspaper on Sunday, APP spokesperson Eduardo Salhuana said that José Elías (founder of the San Juan Bautista University), Lady Camones, he or any other congressman from his party could be the candidate for the vice presidency of the next roundtable.
He said that, “due to alternation,” this time the MD presidency falls to Fuerza Popular, so his group would step aside from trying for reelection.
According to Salhuana, the procedure for electing the APP candidate will be similar to last year’s, when Alejandro Soto was elected.
He said that, on that occasion, there was only one candidate (Alejandro Soto), and he was proclaimed “by consensus.”
The same could happen on Monday, the APP spokesman added. “A congressman is the one who proposes the candidate to be elected,” he said, and he did not rule out that this time there could be more than one candidate, and he specified that if that happens, they will have to make a decision.
While FP chooses its candidate, APP will do the same simultaneously.
The election will take place at the party’s local office in Jesús María, and will be attended by César Acuña, president of APP, and the secretary of the aforementioned group, Luis Valdez.
What would be ruled out, however, is that Alejandro Soto could run for re-election.
In our Sunday edition, Elías —who recently joined the party— would have the majority support.
THE PENCIL CANDIDATE
Like FP and APP, Peru Libre will also select its MD candidate tomorrow, and will make the decision whether or not to continue in the Democratic Bloc.
The candidates for vice president are Kelly Portalatino, Américo Gonza and Flavio Cruz. In today’s edition, Cruz would have the highest acceptance.
THE LIST IS CHOSEN ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY
The APP spokesman pointed out Peru21 that on Tuesday or Wednesday the Democratic Bloc will meet to elect the list of the new Board of Directors.
On either of those two days, with the panorama clear, the Democratic Bloc will form the list with the candidates for the presidency and three vice-presidencies of the legislative body.
The meeting to make the decision would be at the home of one of the congressmen.
The BD is made up of the APP, Fuerza Popular, Renovación Popular, Avanza País, Somos Perú and Podemos parties. Last year, Peru Libre joined as an ally.
On that day, it will also be decided whether Avanza País will continue on the MD list or step aside to allow the entry of another group, such as Renovación Popular, Podemos or Somos Perú; and if, in any case, Perú Libre does not continue, another left-wing group could join, which could be the Bloque Magisterial.
