Havana Cuba. – Another collective trial against 11J protesters was held in mid-March. On this occasion, several residents of the Güira de Melena municipality, located on the southern coast of the province of Artemisa, were prosecuted.
One of the accused is Yanley Lopez Basulto, imprisoned in the Combinado del Este, in the capital, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The young man denounces that at the beginning of his captivity he was accused of “sabotage”, however, as the days went by, the agents in charge of the case were adding other crimes to the file such as “attack”, “public disorder” and “damage to property”. society”, among others. Lopez was 20 years old at the time of the arrest.
I was the same age Gilberto Castillo Castillowho suffers from severe mental retardation. His prosecutor’s request was for 11 years in prison. He was finally sentenced to eight, despite the fact that his defense attorney requested immediate release, his relatives reveal.
Likewise, his family adds that as a result of his illness, Castillo Castillo did not learn to read or write, because although he attended a Special School, he did not manage to pass preschool. They add that the young man was even declared unfit for military service. To guarantee his mental condition, the family has the corresponding medical certificates, which the Court refused to accept.
In a similar situation is Yandy Hernandez Montes de Oca, who suffers from wear and tear on the central nervous system, a disease characterized by depressive events in which suicidal ideas are frequent. This makes it particularly vulnerable to State Security procedures. Hernández was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Like the rest of the 11J protesters, his only crime was exercising his fundamental rights within a totalitarian regime.
On the other hand, this Monday, April 18 It was celebrated in the Municipal Court of Diez de Octubre the trial against the peaceful opponent Walfrido Rodríguez Piloto and five other 11J protesters in the neighborhood of El Palenque, in La Lisa.
The other five 11J protesters tried together with Rodríguez Piloto were Fdelián Hernández Bautista (prosecutor request: 12 years in prison), Richard Echavarría López (15 years), Rogelián Hernández Bautista (12 years), Adonis Garvizo Otero (12 years) and José Eduardo Jardines Rodriguez (15 years old).
