Santa Cruz is witnessing an alarming increase in fatal cases of influenza A H1N1 in the last week, with three older adults deceased, raising the figure to four deaths so far this year.

The latest reported death is that of a 73 year old patientwho, as in the previous cases, had not received the influenza vaccine and also had an underlying disease.

The information was confirmed to EL DEBER by the Epidemiology manager of the Departmental Health Service (Sedes), Carlos Hurtado, who explained that the patient’s condition was complicated because he suffered from diabetes, hypertension and kidney problems.
