A man identified as Luis Manuel Castellón Guerrero, 27, died after being struck by lightning while bathing in the back of his home. The event occurred last Friday, June 9. The body had burns on the face and part of one leg.
The young man was not the only one affected; His father, Félix Castellón, was also hit by the discharge, although he was in another house. The survivor was taken to a hospital after he was helped by his relatives.
Two other young people hospitalized
On the other hand, two young people from the municipality of Nindirí, in the department of Masaya, were hospitalized that same day after being affected by electrical storms. The cousins Eser Amiel Bell Pérez and Norwin William Bell, workers on a farm located in the Los Madrigales region, at km 17 of the Masaya highway, were identified as the victims.
The young people were transferred to the Fernando Vélez Paiz Hospital in the capital, in a fire unit. Eser is in delicate condition, according to medical sources, as he received first-degree burns on his neck, chest and arms, while Norwin is recovering satisfactorily. . Both were at the scene of the incident planting grass.

Pablo Bell, a cousin of the victims, declared that his relatives were working when the rain began, «He was working on that side, he works as a grammer, but it was raining and lightning struck in front of him. When I went to pick him up, he was unconscious, I gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and he reacted.» he told witnesses at the scene.
The expert from the Observatory of Natural Phenomena (Ofena) Agustín Moreira warned last Thursday about electrical storms that would occur in the country, which occurred with the rains registered at the end of the week in the afternoon.
The 2023 rainy storm already claims the lives of two people who died from lightning strikes. The first victim was a minor from the municipality of Villa Nueva, in Chinandega. The event was reported on May 11.
