Voters from the municipalities of Mongaguá, Panorama and Bocaina, in São Paulo, will return to the polls on June 8 this year to choose new mayors and deputy mayors, who will run the city by the end of 2028.
In Mongaguá, about 50,000 voters are able to vote in the supplementary election in the 17 voting places in 147 electoral sections. The new election takes place in the municipality after Paulo Wiazowski Filho’s candidacy registration (PP) was rejected by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in March.
“The rapporteur, Minister André Mendonça, who rejected the registration of the candidacy, understood that, in disapproving of the accounts of Paulo Wiazowski Filho by the City Council in 2012, when he was mayor, it was found willful act of administrative misconduct and framing in question of ineligibility,” said TRE-SP [Tribunal Regional Eleitoral de São Paulo]. Paulo Wiazowski Filho and Deputy Mayor Julio Cezar de Carvalho Silva Santos (PDT) received 14,459 votes (42.47%) in the 2024 election.
In Panorama, Edson de Assis Maldonado’s candidacy registration (Progressives) was rejected in September 2024. There was appeal, and the decision was upheld by both TRE-SP and the TSE later. The decision of the 1st instance remained.
According to the case, Maldonado was ineligible for the conviction for a crime of false testimony. Although the penalty imposed was extinguished in 2021, it remains ineligible because the period of eight years, provided for in the Clean Record Law, is not over yet. Edson de Assis Maldonado and Deputy Mayor Sleiman El Aissami (Somos) received 2,787 votes (35.63%).
In the case of Bocaina, TRE-SP, in unanimous vote, maintained the rejection of Moacir Donizete Gimenez’s (Republicans) candidacy registration because of its ineligibility based on the Clean Record Law.
Moacir Donizete Gimenez was convicted of an act of administrative misconduct practiced with intent, bad faith, injury to public heritage and illicit enrichment of third parties. Gimenez and Deputy Mayor Darcy Marangoni (Republicans) had 3,076 votes (48.39%) in the 2024 election.
