The children of 5, 7 and 10 years, remained without water, food or any type of protection.

In a new public order episode that affects the department of Chocó, three indigenous brothers, of 7, 5 and 10 years, were found alive after spending three days alone in the thick jungle of the municipality of Cloró. The minors, belonging to the Ocollloró community, would have fled after witnessing the murder of a man identified as Erminio Rentería, in a fact that involves the members of the ELN.
As explained by Yesid Machado, Personero de Lloró, in an interview with News Caracol, Rentería, affectionately known as “Chan”, was killed by ELN members during a violent altercation. “Apparently, there was first a quarrel where he managed to hurt one of the members of that group,” said Machado.
The minors, apparently, frightened by what happened, went into the jungle to protect themselves. For 72 hours, a humanitarian commission – supported by leaders of the Orewa Association and relief agencies – toured the thick vegetation until they were found.
The time of rescue: they went out by their own means to see rescuers
The finding occurred when the children, by their own means, left among the bushes when they saw rescuers. “They were three very hard days for them, alone on the mountain. One of the children had a foot wound,” said Rumaldo Dovisabe, indigenous leader Orewa Association.

After the rescue, the little ones were transferred to the urban center of Lloró, where they received medical attention, because they had been without food, water or shelter for three days.
The situation not only left a deep impression on children’s drama, but also triggered a massive displacement. As reported by Caracol, some 115 families from the Tocolloró and Canchidó communities left their homes in the intensification of the fighting.
The mayor of Cloró, Luz Stella Serna, indicated that the confrontation between illegal armed groups and the public force has left the civilian population in the middle of the fire. “It is in a territorial dispute between groups outside the law and the authorities. The State as such, the Army and the Public Force do their work, and in the midst of that situation the civilian population is affected,” he said.
