Three people were killed and three were injured in a shooting Sunday. in an Indiana shopping mall, authorities said, the latest in a wave of gun violence in the United States.
“We experienced a mass shooting tonight at the Greenwood Park Mall.“Mark Myers, mayor of the town of Greenwood, said in a statement.
“Right now we have three dead and three wounded,” said Myers, who explained that the shooter had been killed by “an armed individual”.
Greenwood police asked on their Facebook page for witnesses to the shooting communicate to provide information.
This is the latest incident in a wave of armed violence affecting the United States, where There are about 40,000 deaths a year from firearms.according to the Archive of Armed Violence.
The attack came a couple of weeks after a gunman opened fire at a July 4 parade in an affluent suburb of Chicago that left seven dead and at least three dozen injured.
It also took place after two massacres in May: 10 African-Americans were shot to death in a supermarket in Buffalo, in the state of New York; Y 19 children and two teachers were killed in an elementary school in Texas.
The recent rise in gun violence has reignited the harsh debate over gun regulation in the country. A House committee will vote this weekfor the first time in almost 20 years, a bill to ban assault rifles.
