The Secretary of Energy of the United States, Chris Wright, spoke of three important points about the situation in Venezuela, after his visit to the country. Next to the acting president, Delcy Rodríguezannounced that both countries are working on a common energy agenda.
During an interview for the American media NBCWright noted that the purpose of the energy agenda is to make it “the driving force of the bilateral agenda.” Furthermore, they hope it will be “productive, effective and beneficial for both countries.”
The most important points mentioned by Secretary Wright
Regarding his visit to the country, the US official assured that the United States wishes to reestablish a diplomatic presence in Venezuela. However, he clarified that Venezuelans are still in charge of the nation, but the Trump government maintains “enormous influence” on the interim authorities.
“(Donald Trump) is the president of the country, of course he has the last word on the flow of funds in Venezuela, not what happens in that country (…) We have auditors who control where the money should go when it arrives in Venezuela,” he said.
Among the most important points that Wright mentioned during his interview with NBC are:
1. “Our intention “is to liberate the economy and the people of Venezuela.”
2. “I believe that the deadline stated by María Corina (Machado) of holding elections in nine or 10 months is reasonable.”
3.”The United States will control the money that enters Venezuela until they have legitimate authorities.”
Visit to Venezuela
During Secretary Wright’s visit to Venezuela, he offered a statement with Rodríguez, who expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between both countries.
“I feel very happy that the path with the United States is an agenda of respect, it is an agenda of cooperation within the framework of our sovereignty,” Rodríguez said in a video call at a Chavismo march to commemorate Youth Day.
The Venezuelan president assured that she had a “very intense” agenda with Wright, where they visited the facilities that Chevron operates together with PDVSA.
