The events occurred in the Havana municipality of Marianao and on the National Highway, in the province of Cienfuegos.
MADRID, Spain.- At least three people lost their lives in two traffic accidents that occurred this Sunday in different parts of the country, one in the capital municipality of Marianao, in Havana, and another in the province of Cienfuegos, according to information spread by reports on social networks.
Accident in Marianao: one deceased after a collision between an electric motorcycle and a jeep
One of the events occurred on the afternoon of this Sunday, at the intersection of streets 51 and 94, in the municipality of Marianao, an intersection with high vehicular flow.
According to information disclosed by The Scissors and versions shared by witnesses, an electric motorcycle was descending down 94th Street when it did not stop at the stop sign when entering 51st Avenue. At that moment, the vehicle was hit by a Willys Jeep that was traveling down the avenue in the direction of 100th Street.
The impact was of such magnitude that the motorcycle driver died at the scene. People who were in the area tried to help him while the emergency services were alerted, but it was not possible to reverse the outcome due to the severity of the injuries.
Images subsequently spread on social networks show the damage caused by the crash and the commotion generated at the scene, which has once again raised concerns about road safety in that part of the municipality.
Accident in Cienfuegos: two dead and several injured
The second accident also occurred on Sunday, on the National Highway, in the province of Cienfuegos, and left two people dead and several passengers injured.
The reports place the accident at kilometer 188 of the road, in the vicinity of the municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros, and indicate that a passenger bus collided with a truck while traveling along that stretch.
Preliminarily, it has been reported that the two fatalities would be the bus driver and one of the passengers, while several passengers were injured and were taken to hospitals in the province. Among the injured there were two minors with minor injuries, although so far there has been no official confirmation regarding the total number of those affected or their state of health.
The prime minister of the regime, Manuel Marrero Cruz, confirmed the accident from his account on X.
These accidents add to a series of road accidents recorded in recent years in the country, which have left numerous victims and show the persistent road safety crisis in Cuba.
Among the main causes of these accidents are the deterioration of road infrastructure, the obsolete state of the vehicle fleet – with vehicles that have been in operation for more than four decades – and human factors, such as non-compliance with traffic regulations or reckless driving.
