In the last week, violence in Colombia has intensified despite the ambitious project proposed by the Petro administration on national security, to achieve “total peace”, which includes negotiations with illegal armed groups
This Saturday, September 3, there was an attack on a vehicle by armed men in the department of Cauca, in southwestern Colombia, which left three dead.
The area in which these three people were murdered, in San José, jurisdiction of the Santander de Quilichao municipality, is “a strategic zone due to the facilities for mobility, due to the interconnection of the rural and the urban, which enables traffic and transit of the illegality, “warned the Ombudsman’s Office.
This violent act, the second reported in the last 24 hours, raised to 74 the number of massacres that have been documented in the neighboring country since the beginning of 2022, reported the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz).
In addition, in that same municipality, on July 10, three people were murdered and two more were injured in the El Palmar sector. Two of the victims were members of indigenous communities, according to Europa Press.
Already on Friday, September 2, an attack with explosives took place that claimed the lives of eight agents of the National Police of Colombia in a rural area of the Huila district.
Apparently, the policemen were going back to the police station to which they were attached after a day of work in the San Luis township when a minefield was activated as the truck in which they were traveling passed.
The Colombian authorities have so far not provided information on those responsible for the incident. Gustavo Petro, the president of that nation, however, spoke about it and said that “these events express a clear sabotage of total peace. I have asked the authorities to travel to the territory to take over the investigation»-
