Tragedy during National Holidays. Yesterday morning, an interprovincial bus covering the Lima-Abancay route suffered a serious accident at kilometer 222+100 via Puquio – Chalhuanca, leaving three dead and dozens injured.
Violent deaths
The road accident occurred at approximately 4:30 in the morning, and there were up to 39 passengers inside the double-decker bus with license plate T4G-963, owned by Transporte Vía Segura SAC. The heavy unit went off the road near the Negro Mayo – Cora Cora sector, in the province of Lucanas, where it rolled over several times, leaving it destroyed and the passengers with serious injuries. Three people died and 29 were injured, several were trapped between the iron bars. Five ambulances with health personnel from Puquio, highway police, Puquio security, COE and UBO 167 were sent to the scene, taking the injured to the Felipe Huamán de Ayala Support Hospital in Puquio.
At 6:31 a.m., a citizen shared a live broadcast on social media, evidencing the critical situation. Until that time, only one ambulance had arrived and the injured were screaming, moving around with bloody faces, bruises, etc.
“We don’t know if those on the first floor have gotten out, only those of us on the second floor have gotten out. I was awake and a baby was crying and then the bus started to tilt and rang three times and people started screaming, thank God I only got hurt. It seems that the driver was sleeping or was speeding. He rang three bells,” said Fidelina, one of the passengers.
The Willaq Apurímac Police confirmed the death of three people, including the bus driver. The deceased are Juan Carlos Alata Paucar, 46 years old (driver), Becker Ademir Human Molina, 19 years old, and a third passenger, NN, yet to be identified.
Wounded people identified
Five ambulances from the health facilities of Lucanas, San Pedro, Pampamarca and the Support Hospital were also deployed to the accident area. The Regional Health Directorate of Ayacucho reported in a preliminary report that there were up to 29 injured, who are being treated by health personnel and possible referrals are being evaluated.

The list of injured continues with one citizen yet to be identified, also injured are Pardo Ayquipa Yanet, Quispe Mayta Yenedi, Rodríguez Capcha Zulma, Rodríguez Osorio Edi Alonso, Silvera Pardo Emir Gael, Tello Díaz Teófilo, Torres Jayo Mirian Marivi and Yalli Rivas Ana Flor.
