According to the information supplied by the National Fire Departmentthe fire was recorded around 5:30 a.m. in a wooden cabin located in the surroundings of Tupambaé and Cerro San Antonio.
The victims of the fatal incident were a 67-year-old woman and her grandchildren: an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
From the Fire Department they highlighted that at the time the personnel arrived the fire already covered the entire house, which made it impossible to avoid the “tragic outcome”. The troops who worked on the site belong to the Pan de Azúcar detachment, near Cerros Azules. Primary information points to the victims dying from gas inhalation poisoning before they were consumed by the fire.
On the other hand, a man – a partner of the deceased woman – managed to escape from the house in time and received medical attention on the spot. Health personnel briefly released him after treating the minor burns he suffered.
The family was foreign and had lived in said property for a short time. In accordance with Telemundothe Fire department hypothesizes that the origin of the flames was in the embers of a barbecue made the night before in a place near the cabin.
