Three days late, Cuban authorities confirm the murder of Santiago Morgado

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed this Wednesday that Professor Santiago Morgado, whose body was found in Sancti Spíritus Last monday, was murdered. It’s the first time that the official press manifests itself about the case, which was made public on social networks last Friday, when the family reported Morgado as missing.

Even though these three days ago gave no sign of him, Escambray says that the death of the professor, who was 62 years old and was “a very loved man” in his community, “has shocked the city of Sancti Spíritus.”

The authorities declared to the provincial newspaper that they recognized “the active participation of relatives, friends and community factors in a search that began on July 1.”

Yéster Reyes Marrero, first officer of the Police Headquarters in Sancti Spíritus, assured that “the full weight of the law will fall on the people responsible for this murder.” Likewise, he said that officials from the Ministry of the Interior accompanied Morgado’s family in his search, in which Education officials also participated.

Neither Escambray Nor do the rest of the official media offer more details about the death of the professor, whose body, according to the activist Néstor Estévez with a source from the victim’s relatives, was found inside a well in the Planta Cantú area, in the heart of the Sancti Spiritus mountain range.

From the beginning, the family was convinced that he was killed to steal the motorcycle he was riding. Morgado had left Sancti Spíritus on Friday for Banao around noon and the last time he was seen was at the Guasimal junction.

Last weekend, relatives found Morgado’s motorcycle helmet on the road through El Pinto, before reaching Banao, and last Monday, his glasses and a shoe, near the well where, hours later, he was The body was recovered by firefighters.

“The authority intervened only when the possibility that it was in the well was high,” Estevez assures this Thursday to 14ymedio.

The activist had recalled that this is the second incident reported in the municipality in a few weeks. “The last case was in the area of ​​415 behind Pesca. We’re not talking about thieves. We’re talking about murderers who steal.”
