Three Cubans in the All Stars of the World Classic

Three Cuban-born players were included in the All-Star Team of the V World Baseball Classic (WBC)which concluded this Tuesday in the American city of Miami with the spectacular coronation of the Japanese team.

After the exciting final duel, the organizers announced the list that brings together the most outstanding players of the tournament, and in which third baseman Yoan Moncada, outfielder Randy Arozarena and pitcher Miguel Romero appear, according to a note published by the Spanish portal of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Only Moncada and Romero were part of the team that represented the island in the contest and that finished in fourth place, 17 years after having reached the semifinal phase for the first and only time.

In the case of Arrozarena, he chose to integrate the selection of Mexico, his adopted country, and of which he was one of the most responsible for the third seat won in the recently concluded edition.

The appointment of Moncada, one of the MLB players who were summoned by Cuba in an unprecedented way, is backed by his excellent offensive performance, especially from the third game that marked the resurgence of the Caribbean representation.

His teammate Romero, another of those called up who does not play on the Island, was included among the three most outstanding pitchers in the tournament thanks to his performance in five appearances. He went on to go two wins without a loss, worked for a 2.08 ERA per game and was one of the most notable strikeouts in the contest, with 13 by himself.

Arozarena was a spark plug within the Mexican team due to his forcefulness in the batting box, the spectacularity of several of his noodles and the ability to turn his talent into an applauded show on the diamond.

Neither player could match his impressive .607 offensive average, a display to which he added 6 doubles and a home run, nine RBIs and eight runs scored, plus a 1.507 OPS.

In total, six Latino players were included in the select all-star lineup: Venezuelan Salvador Pérez was chosen as catcher, Puerto Rican Javier Báez monopolized the designation as second baseman, and Mexican Patrick Sandoval completed the selected pitching trio.
