MIAMI, United States. – Three Cuban activists – the writer and blogger Yoaxis Marcheco Suárez, the Baptist pastor Mario Félix Lleonart Barroso and the young Cuban-American Kiele Cabrera – were elected delegates to represent Cuba in the 2025 General Assembly of the World Liberty Congress (WLC) ―in Spanish it would be World Freedom Congress– that will be celebrated in Berlin on November 8 and 9, at the headquarters of the city’s Parliament (Abgeordnetenhaus).
“It is an honor for me to represent Cuba, along with two other delegates: Baptist pastor Mario Félix Lleonart and Cuban-American activist Kiele Cabrera, to the General Assembly of the World Liberty Congress to be held this year in Berlin,” Marcheco told CubaNet after knowing your choice.
“It is also a great responsibility because in this framework we will be raising the voices of those who on our Island live under the yoke of the longest-running tyranny on our continent. We are also pleased to accompany our Nicaraguan and Venezuelan brothers, as well as other nations in the region that suffer from regimes similar to ours or that are in danger of falling into authoritarian systems,” he added.
Finally, he assured that he was excited about the possibility of “meeting other activists, from other regions of the world” and specified that “this type of event helps activists unite to be stronger in the fight against those who seek to steal human freedoms,” he concluded.
The WLC in Berlin is part of Berlin Freedom Week (November 8–15), a new initiative in the German capital with the support of the Berlin Government. The central event of the WLC will be the sessions of its General Assembly (November 8–9) and, on the 10th, the Berlin Freedom Conference.
From the parliamentary headquarters, the president of the Berlin House of Representatives, Cornelia Seibeld (CDU), highlighted: “We welcome the World Liberty Congress in a place that like few others symbolizes the new democratic beginning of Germany and embodies the ruptures and transformations of German history.”
For her part, the president of the WLC, Masih Alinejad, stated: “In Berlin we will be together, not only as exiles, but as representatives of millions of people condemned to silence by authoritarian regimes.”

Yoaxis Marcheco Suárez is a Cuban writer and activist. Together with her husband, Pastor Mario Félix Lleonart, she co-founded the Patmos Institutea platform that has documented restrictions on religious freedom on the Island. Both left Cuba in exile.
Mario Félix Lleonart Barroso has spoken in international forums on human rights and religious freedom. In 2015 presented written testimony before the US House of Representatives. in a hearing on rights violations in Cuba and Venezuela. He has also previously participated in WLC activities.
The World Liberty Congress is a global network of pro-democracy advocates, formally established in 2023 during an assembly in Vilnius with the participation of more than 200 dissidents from 56 countries, and led by figures such as Masih Alinejad, Garry Kasparov and Leopoldo Lopezamong others.
The 2025 General Assembly will bring together more than 200 delegates from more than 50 countries in the Berlin Parliament, according to official announcements of the Berlin House of Representatives itself.
