Three Chuspa fishermen missing after fishing on the high seas

The disappearance of three fishermen from the Caruao parish, La Guaira state, keeps family, friends and the fishing community of Chuspa in suspense.

The Virgen del Valle boat, registration 0142 and attached to the Chuspa Fishermen’s Council (Conppa), was found this Wednesday, December 26 on the island of Bonaire, but so far there is no news about the whereabouts of its crew made up of Enrique Arias, Greimar Crusco and Rafael Wilson Terán.

The fishermen set sail last Wednesday, December 19, with the intention of returning the next day, but they did not return to their place of origin. The boat appeared abandoned and almost sunk, which has increased concern among authorities and the community.

César Ramos, spokesperson for the Conppa of Chuspa, reported that the search operation has intensified with the participation of local fishermen, private boats and a brigade of the Bolivarian National Police. Likewise, it is expected that in the next few hours efforts will be coordinated with the Bonaire authorities to expand the search radius.

“We continue searching for our companions in the hope of finding them alive. We call on all nearby vessels to join this effort to find Enrique, Greimar and Rafael as soon as possible,” said Ramos.

Relatives of the missing have requested the deployment of all necessary resources to expedite the search efforts and are grateful for the expressions of solidarity received. The situation has dismayed the community, which does not cease its efforts to locate the fishermen.

Maritime authorities urged the population to remain alert and report any information that may contribute to the location of the crew members.
