The violent assault occurred at 2:15 a.m. yesterday at the Don Alberto gas station, located on Jirón Jorge Chávez and transversal Huáscar, in Pueblo Nuevo de Colán, in Paita.

According to initial statements, the attackers broke into the establishment after getting off a motorcycle taxi and subdued the two workers who were on duty.

The criminals, each carrying a firearm, pointed the gun at the employees’ heads and in this way managed to subdue them so that they did not resist.

Under death threats, they forced employees to open the cash registers at the fuel sales booths and seized sales from the previous 24 hours.

Not content with that money, the thugs beat the workers to force them to reveal where they kept the rest of the money from the sales of other products they sell there.

With the money in hand, the criminals fired a few shots to avoid being pursued and quickly fled the scene, leaving no trace.

It was learned that the workers immediately called the police and security, but they did not arrive at the service station until 7 a.m. on Monday, five hours after the robbery.

This delay was harshly criticized by the population, who demanded a greater police presence in the area, due to the constant assaults on the transit that occur in Pueblo Nuevo de Colán.

It was learned that the robbery was recorded by the security cameras of the gas station and these are already in the hands of the police, who are analyzing them to the millimeter to identify the perpetrators of this robbery.

The thugs are believed to have stolen more than 4,000 soles. At the time of going to press, the exact amount of money stolen by this gang of criminals was unknown.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, but the community of the port of Paita is already demanding more effective measures to prevent this type of incident and guarantee the safety of merchants and citizens.

Authorities are expected to reinforce security in the province of Paita.
