The Ocean operation is approaching its criminal stage. After a long process this week, the first judicial results were given, which included the dismissal of three people and the conviction by abbreviated trial with another two.
This process initially had 32 people accused of committing sexual crimes against minors. The crime that is repeated the most among these defendants is that of economic retribution or promise of retribution to minors for committing sexual or erotic acts. In total, 18 adolescent victims were identified.
They dismissed two men and the only woman
On the night of this Tuesday and the morning of this Wednesday the fiscal of Sexual Crimes in charge of the cause, Mariana Alfarodecided to ask the court to dismiss three accused persons.
They are two men and the only woman charged in the case, Evelyn Orona. As sources from the Prosecutor’s Office explained to Diario La R, the reason why these people were not criminally charged was because they did not find enough evidence to link them to the facts.
In accordance with The country, the judge in the case María Noel Tonarelli informed the defendants’ defenders of the dismissal. Among these three people are, in addition to Orona, a renowned public relations officer from Punta del Este known for organizing parties and another businessman.
The case of the only woman charged
The Prosecutor’s Office charged Orona in the framework of the Ocean operation in 2020 for the crime of contributing to the exploitation of minors and pimping. All this because both she and her partner (also charged) allegedly offered her apartment to one of the victims to prostitute herself.
The accused always maintained her innocence of the accused and indicated that the case caused her enormous damage. As a result of the procedure, she lost up to four jobs and parental authority over her daughter, she indicated.
According to Orona, she did not know the victim and the person who contacted her to offer the apartment was her partner. The two defendants shared a WhatsApp group with women who scheduled a time for the use of the property. The lawyer of the now dismissed indicated that she had nothing to do with the fact (that she never went beyond the man’s offer) and that they only charged her for belonging to her group.
The Ocean operation continues and this Wednesday the sentence against two of the defendants was announced.
