Thousands of drugs not suitable for human consumption seized in Moca

Incautan miles de medicamentos no aptos para consumo humano en Moca

Moca, Espaillat.- The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) Withdrew thousands of boxes of medicines not suitable for human consumption, during an extensive operation carried out in different businesses in this city.

The owner of the entity, Eddy Alcantaraexplained that the medical products were withdrawn from the establishments because with them they were violating what is established by the Law 358-05 on the Protection of Consumer Rights.

He said that the operation, carried out last Friday, was led by the director of the Department of Inspection and Surveillance, Eusebio Peña, and the body of inspectors of the institution, accompanied by members of the Army and the National Police.

He pointed out that among the drugs seized are thousands of pills for pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and circulation diseases, as well as vaginal soaps, ovules, vitamins, calcium, menthol and others.

He indicated that this inspection day was carried out peacefully and without any type of resistance from the merchants, “thanks to the consensus work that the institution has been carrying out to avoid this bad practice that threatens the health of consumers.”

Alcantara insisted that the fundamental objective of these operations is to preserve the health of the Dominican people and comply with what agreed with merchants of the area on the basis of their collaboration, in order to withdraw from the market products that could lacerate people’s health.

He maintained that these inspections will be maintained periodically as established in September 2021 with the medicine merchants of the Espaillat province, “who have committed to working together with Pro Consumer to help eradicate in Moca the sale of medicines that are not suitable for human consumption.”

The occupied medicines are valued at several million pesos in the market/File. External source.

The official met months ago with representatives of the Dominican Association of Drug and Related Suppliers (ADOSUME), who supported that entity in the fight against the marketing of drugs that threaten health.

It is recalled that the first massive operation in this municipality was carried out in October of last year, where more than 25 thousand boxes of medicines not suitable for consumption were seized.
