Thousands of Dominicans trapped by snow in NY cities

NEW YORK.- Thousands of Dominicans residing in cities located in the west of this state, including Buffalo, Seneca, Lancaster, Grand Island, Aurora, Holland and Orchard Park, were trapped in their homes this weekend due to the historic snow storm of more than 70 inches fell in these populations, according to the National Weather Service.

The authorities ordered the closure of roads, airports, stadiums, cancellation of hundreds of flights from different airlines, and the prohibition of movement of vehicles and people on foot.

This situation occurs a few days after the celebration of the traditional “Thanksgiving” or “Thanksgiving Day”, this coming Thursday, when hundreds of thousands of people from that region move to other places.

Two people, not identified by authorities, died in Buffalo of heart complications related to shoveling snow while trying to remove it from around their vehicles, authorities said.

In the Big Apple it has not yet snowed, but the cold has made itself felt.
