This year more than 300 older adults have been mistreated

More than 300 cases of abuse of the elderly have been registered by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) during this 2023; This was revealed by the General Director of Public Health of MINSA, Melva Cruz, during the intersectoral forum in commemoration of the World Day against Abuse and Mistreatment in Old Age.

Cruz highlighted that during 2022 the statistics indicate that one in every 6 adults over the age of 65 suffered some type of abuse, so through this forum they seek to promote the human rights of older adults, such as the importance for society that they have the legacy and experience transmitted by the elderly.

Cruz stressed the importance of vaccination for these elderly people, so he urged family members to take them to receive their vaccines in a timely manner.

For her part, the Minister of the Ministry of Social Development, María Ines Castillo, indicated that they are coordinating inter-institutionally with MINSA to vaccinate older adults against respiratory viruses that are frequent in the rainy season.
