Patricia Ariza, the appointed Minister of Culture of the Petro government, proposed the creation of a 4% tax on cell phone plans of more than 38,000 pesos.
His idea came during the historic covenant convention in Medellin.

“We propose the expansion of the taxable base for the national consumption tax on mobile telephony, which would leverage a bill that allows the collection of the national mobile telephony consumption tax to be reduced from 3 UVT to 1 UVTAriza said.
“This collection is a fundamental source of financing for the culture sector and has been declining, as private operators increasingly offer fewer plans that exceed 3 UVT”, he added.

As Ariza explained in his proposal, telephony produces an “impressive” capital, referring to a support of telephony to culture swould be “important”.
“And not only from telephony, hopefully outside of all institutions because culture is transversal to the whole”, closed the designated minister.
