The daily value is calculated from the monthly salary and the transportation allowance established by the Government.

News Colombia.

With the minimum wage that will govern in Colombia starting in 2026, the daily cost for the work of a domestic worker will have an adjustment that employers must take into account. The update impacts not only the base income, but also the mandatory benefits that are part of the legal payment.

When dividing the new monthly minimum wage, set at 1,746,882 pesos, by the 30 days of the month, the daily value of the salary is 58,229 pesos. This amount corresponds only to the payment for the working day and constitutes the minimum base that the worker must receive for each day of service.

Added to this figure is transportation assistance, which by 2026 will have a daily value of 8,437 pesos, as long as the employee earns up to two minimum wages and does not live at the workplace. This benefit is mandatory and is an integral part of the remuneration.

With both concepts included, the minimum daily payment that a domestic employee must receive in 2026 amounts to 66,700 pesos. This sum represents the basic legal income for each day worked, without including other costs associated with the employment relationship.

It is important to clarify that, although in practice many people hire domestic service on a daily basis, Colombian legislation does not recognize this modality as a type of independent contract. This means that, even if the work is provided for specific hours, the employer is still obliged to comply with current labor standards.

Among these obligations are social security contributions, such as health, pension and occupational risks, as well as benefits such as bonuses and severance pay, calculated proportionally. The adjustment to the minimum wage for 2026 reinforces the need to formalize these labor relations and guarantee decent conditions for domestic workers.
