The presentation will begin at 3:00 pm and will run throughout the afternoon. The headlines are expected to offer more information about the case of Chinería Island and the actions of the Peruvian State.
The invitation to the ministers is given after the order of order approved in the plenary session of August 14 who declared as a person not pleasant to the Colombian presidential candidate, Daniel Quintero, who transgressed the sovereignty of the country when entering the territory of the Chinería Island to raise a Colombian flag.
As is known, the Chancellor already officially expressed that the entire territory that forms Chinería Island, in which the district of Santa Rosa de Loreto is located, is of Peruvian sovereignty and clarified that there is no doubt about it, during its presentation last Monday in the Foreign Relations Commission of the Congress.
“It cannot be renegotiated, from a legal or technical body, an already established treaty,” he said before the parliamentarians.
Diplomatic incident
The statements of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, on the sovereignty of Chinería Island, has unleashed a diplomatic storm that faces Peru and Colombia, more than a hundred years after having settled its border limits inside the Amazon jungle.
The Colombian president, whose government does not go through one of his best moments, would have used the strategy of claiming sovereignty to Peru in an apparent strategy to divert the attention of public opinion in his country.
Petro said on August 5 that Peru violated the Treaty of Rio de Janeiro by annexing a territory that, he said, is from his country. Therefore, he announced that they could go to “international law” if the Peruvian State refuses to dialogue in the corresponding instances.
However, the response of the Peruvian authorities has been clear and forceful, declare that there is no sovereign dispute and that the boundaries between the two countries were declared in the Solomon-Lozano Treaty (1922).
In that line and after Petro’s claims, President Dina Boluarte personally travels to the Santa Rosa de Loreto district to participate in a ceremony for claiming national sovereignty and announced a series of measures in favor of the Peruvian population that has been living on Chinería Island for decades.
“Here we act according to the Constitution and International Law. We will not yield a centimeter of our territory, nor will we allow for respect. Our sovereignty is not under discussion,” said the head of state in a brief speech.
