Operation in San Victorino leaves 1.8 tons of gunpowder seized, more than 100 police officers reinforce controls in Bogotá for Christmas.
The Bogotá Metropolitan Policesince the early hours of this Wednesday, has been carrying out operations against the illegal sale and marketing of gunpowder in the sector of Saint Victorinusin the center of the city.
With the deployment, which has the participation of more than 100 uniformed of different specialties, the authorities carry out inspection, verification and control activities in establishments and informal sellers.
Furthermore, with the anti-gunpowder squads, they will registration and verification activities throughout the New Year’s Eve season at identified points where illegal sales of pyrotechnic material could occur.

In dialogue with LA FM, the colonel Sergio BayonaCommander of Security Operation No. 04 of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, provided details of the operation.
“Within the framework of the strategy ‘Christmas with a Purpose’the Police directs all its efforts towards the control and sale of gunpowder. More than one hundred men and women are arriving at prioritized establishments where there is a possible sale of pyrotechnic material,” explained Colonel Bayona.

The colonel added that these operations will be developed constantly throughout the holiday season and in all busy commercial areas.
“Our anti-gunpowder squad is deployed in support of district entities to locate establishments where gunpowder could be sold,” he added.
The Metropolitan Police revealed that, so far in the month of December, the seizure of gunpowder is approaching two tons.
“We can say that we have seized 1.8 tons of gunpowder and applied approximately 84 summons orders,” reported Colonel Bayona.
The figure is expected increase with operations what the authorities are doing to remove this material from the market.
The Metropolitan Police took the opportunity to deliver security recommendations:
• Avoid the use of gunpowder during the holiday season, especially by children and adolescents.
• Allow only authorized experts to handle pyrotechnic material.
• Anyone caught selling, manufacturing, transporting or using gunpowder will be subject to a summons.
• Report the use of gunpowder to the line 123.
