Cúcuta once again occupied a prominent place on the national scene after being recognized by the Ministry of Sports as the city with the Best Cycle Path in Colombiaan achievement that highlights their commitment to physical activity, civic culture and the use of free time.
The recognition was presented at the Gala Night of the Healthy Habits and Lifestyles Awards of the Ministry of Sports, on December 10, where managers and entities from all over the country met to highlight the best practices in promoting healthy habits. In this scenario, Cúcuta shone with its own light thanks to the articulated work of the Municipal Institute for Recreation and Sports (IMRD) and the support of the local administration.
The distinction was received by Jorge William Correadirector of the IMRD, representing the city. According to the entity, this result is the result of the constant effort of the team that leads, every Wednesday and Sunday, a cycle path that has become a national benchmark for its organization, citizen participation and community focus. The initiative is part of the Active and Healthy Pathways (VAS)programs created in Colombia to offer spaces for integration, physical activity and coexistence.
Cúcuta received several national recognitions for its work in physical activity and healthy living
During the ceremony, the Ministry also praised the commitment of different managers and territories of the country with the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Cúcuta not only won the main recognition, but also swept several categories:
- Best municipal manager: Javier Enrique Cantillo López — Cúcuta
- Best celebration of World Physical Activity Day: North of Santander
- Best municipal monitor: Anderson Rafael Contreras Delgado — Cúcuta
- Best municipal program: Cucuta
- Special recognition: Active and Healthy Pathways – Cúcuta
Local authorities celebrated this result, ensuring that it reaffirms Cúcuta as a national model in sports and community activities. For the IMRD, these awards reflect the positive impact of the cycle path on the lives of thousands of inhabitants and confirm the importance of continuing to strengthen spaces that promote health, well-being and social cohesion.
