In the early hours of Friday, September 6, the National Government and representatives of freight transporters announced the agreement they reached to lift the truckers’ strike on the country’s main roads.

After several hours of discussions, the parties decided to gradually increase the cost of diesel fuel by $800.
According to what was known, these increases will be $400 as of the amendment of resolution 40350 of 2024 and another $400 on December 1.

The agreement also included 14 other points, including suspending additional increases until structural changes are achieved in the sector, establishing technical committees to allow regulatory adjustments and including all transport stakeholders in SICE-TAC.
Finally, the Ministry of Labour has committed to including a special article for the transport sector in the labour reform, which will take into account the needs raised by representatives of public service drivers.
In this regard, President Gustavo Petro said that “We have resolved the truckers’ strike faster than they thought and in the best way possible. Congratulations to the small truckers who knew how to put their agenda of demands as a priority and not foreign agendas. We will fulfill their promises. Congratulations to the citizens who had the patience and did not resort to confrontations within the people themselves. Congratulations to the public forces that acted with democratic prudence.”.

For his part, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, said that “The truckers’ strike was lifted and at the same time we achieved another very good news for the country: we gave an example of how social mobilizations are resolved and agreements are reached, of how consensus is built through dialogue and especially how democratic transformation is achieved in favor of workers, in this case transport workers, drivers, and small vehicle owners in Colombia. A new moment of transformation begins not only for this sector, but also a model of transformation for Colombia.”.
