This Holy Thursday begins the Pascual Triduum, the period of time in which the Catholic Christian liturgy commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, and constitutes the central moment of Holy Week.
“Today the Easter Triduum begins, in reality it is a single celebration on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In the cathedral there is a mass for the sick in the morning, pBut at night, at 7:00 p.m., we will begin the Pascual Triduum, where we remember Jesu s’ surrender to save us. On Sunday we sing the hosanna, which means ‘come to save us,'” explained Father Hugo Ara, rector of the Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo (Cathedral of Santa Cruz), in a interview to EL DEBER Radio.
According to the religious, this Holy Thursday “begins with the remembrance of the Jewish Easter, Jesus wants to celebrate Easter, but a new one where he is himself. Because he says: ‘this is my body and this is my blood, do this in memory of me.’ With this he instituted the Eucharist and since then it has not stopped celebrating.
For Father Ara, “in this celebration there is a wonderful gesture, which is the washing of the feet, as a sign of humility and service to others. For us it is very significant in a time where everyone wants power and wealth. Whoever wants to be first, let him be the one who serves.”
He announced that tonight, Monsignor René Leigue, Archbishop of Santa Cruz, will wash the feet of 12 people. Those called to this ritual are elders, teachers and students.
Then the visit to the temples will be madeFriday continues with the Passion of the Lord (viacrusis, crucifixion and death)to this is added the reading of the Seven Words.
“In the Passion of the Lord there are two signs: the adoration of the cross and communion, to then go in procession expressing our solidarity and adherence to our Lord”, said Father Hugo Ara.
Meanwhile, the Easter vigil (Holy Saturday) “is when the fire is blessed, the paschal candle, the hallelujah is sung that was not sung during Lent because Jesus has risen and lives with his Father,” said Ara.
