From the municipality of Tenjo in the department of Cundinamarca, a project is being carried out to prepare the only spinning wheels in Colombia that have important technological advances and that avoid serious health problems in the hands of those who work with handicrafts made from wool.
The person leading this process is Luis Fernando Camacho, who is an industrial designer by profession and a craftsman from the region With more than 20 years of experience.
Master Camacho’s idea was born because he was able to identify thatThe artisans when they manipulate the threads taken from the wool result in untying the carpal tunnel (a condition in the median nerve of the hand), which over time prevents them from easily continuing to develop their crafts and which subsequently makes the processes slower.

Seeing this type of affectation, Mr. Camacho developed a pedal spinning wheel for those remote regions of Colombia where there is no electricity service and that gave the possibility to dozens of artisan families to develop their art without needing this basic service. Subsequently, the engineer Camacho created a spinning wheel with more optimal components that speeds up the work of the spinning mill.
The making of these spinning wheels has not only transcended in Tenjo, a municipality recognized in Colombia for its spinning and weaving work, where most artisans have chosen to access one of these elementsbut has also been distributed in different parts of the country, such as Boyacá, Valle del Cauca and Antioquia.
