This Sunday they watched over the ex-minister Daisy Tourné in Martinelli

This Sunday they fired the former minister and legislator Daisy Tourné, who died in the early hours of Saturday as a result of pancreatic cancer. The Broad Front reported that it was held at the Martinelli funeral home from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Tourné, a teacher by profession, was Minister of the Interior in the first government of Tabaré Vázquez, between 2007 and 2009. She was a legislator for the first time in 1994, and was reelected without interruption until the period 2010-2015, always for the Socialist Party, a group the one who resigned in the year 2020.

Throughout Saturday she was remembered by political leaders of all ranks, who highlighted her strength and honesty in the debate. Among them, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, who expressed: “Loyal opponent. Tough in discussion and with a great sense of humor. I was very fond of him like many of my colleagues.”

Her career as Minister of the Interior was also remembered by several police unions, including Sifpom, which is the one with the most members. Her president, Patricia Rodríguez, posted on her Twitter account: “’It is said of me… that I am a strong woman. It’s true, but it doesn’t contradict that I’m a sensitive woman who puts her heart into everything she does. Daisy Tourné, the first woman in the history of Uruguay invested as Minister of the Interior, in 2007. May she rest in peace”.
