After being closed for more than three weeks, the world wonder, Machu Picchu, reopened its doors this Sunday, when locals and tourists were able to enter the country’s main tourist attraction.

Despite the climate of tension that still exists in the area, the ruling authorities of Machu Picchu agreed to reopen the doors from this Wednesday, January 15 in order to give an opportunity to national and foreign visitors who waited too long to see the ancient Inca city.

After several meetings with unions and surrounding communities, it was concluded that it is now safe to reopen the historic sanctuary, even more so when the need for economic revitalization of all cusqueños and machupiccheños prevails linked to tourist activity.

Having everything ready in terms of conservation and maintenance work, from the headquarters of the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu it was kind enough to reopen the entrance ahead of schedule, letting in a group of tourists last Sunday.

There were 13 lucky people who had waited days -and in other cases weeks- to visit the world wonder, who were able to enter and enjoy one of the main national and world attractions.
