“A step forward” the movement ska in Chili has his first book, to be released on Saturday, May 21 at 4:00 p.m. in the Bar Story Corto, located at República Street #398. The author and various collaborators of the book will be present, such as Caesar Farah, Niko Rumberitoand the music journalist Johanna Watson.
The day will end enlivened by an exclusive repertoire for the meeting, from the hand of the band Ska Jazz Manifesto.
Santiago Rebelde, Rojo Vivo, Sandino Rockers, Santo Barrio, Scarce Contribution, Sonora Arriving, The Evolutionary Revolutionariesamong many other bands, milestones, albums and anecdotes are the ones that Christopher Gonzalez collects in “A Step Forward: A Chronology of Ska in Chile”the first book of this genre published in our country.
The author has been a witness to and part of the ska scene in Chile -he was a member and founder of Santo Barrio- and from there he recounts the development of this music in our lands, from the now distant eighties until today.
But not only that, González Lorca delves into the genesis of the genre, how ska crossed the borders of a small Caribbean island to influence the powerful United Kingdom and conquer thousands of people from all over the world.
We also find in these pages a route of not so well-known bands from different corners of the country, hundreds of references to songs and albums to the delight of ska fans and historical graphic material that enriches the experience of this musical reading.
About the Author
Multifaceted writer and social communicator, Christopher Gonzalez formed the bands holy neighborhood Y Gandjarvas. He has worked in production with Joe Vasconcellos, Commotion Band, Mauricio Redolés, Mariel Mariel and Santaferia. He has collaborated in Spanish and Chilean media as well as having radio programs.
Author of the books “Tumbao Rebelde: El Rock Mestizo de Santo Barrio”, “Santaferia: La Ruta del Huracán” and “Latin America is Great: The International Route of Los Prisioneros” winner of the Pulsar award in 2019.
