The president of the National Institute of Yerba Mate (INMY), Juan José Szychowzki, affirmed that the setting of the price of the yerba mate raw material arranged by the Ministry of Agriculture “should not have an influence” on the value paid by consumers.
“Until Friday, the industrial sector was paying $66 per kilo of green leaves and with this ruling it goes to $70,” Szychowzki explained this morning in dialogue with Télam Radio.
Along these lines, he indicated that “what was done was nothing more than to whiten the price that was being paid, so this new value does not have to influence the gondola price.”
Agriculture set through resolution 51/2022, published in the Official Gazette, the price of yerba mate raw material at $70,080 per ton of green leaf, and at $266,304 the value of canchada yerba mate.both put in dryer.
The new values represent an increase of 49.46% compared to the existing prices, which had been updated for the last time in May.
“By the law creating the Institute we have to set the price of green leaf at the end of March, and at the end of September a price that will govern raw material of green leaf and canchada for the next six months” (FW)John Joseph Szychowzki
As in the previous increase in values, the INYM board was forced to send the determination of the minimum prices to the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture on August 23, because the producers and the industry did not reach a agreement in the meetings they held.
“This award issued by the Secretariat does nothing more than whitewash the price that was being paid in the producing area,” added Szychowzki.
In this regard, he reiterated that “With what was being paid and the price that was in gondola, the chain could perfectly work, that’s why we agree that it should not have an influence on the value that consumers are paying for yerba”.
“Due to the law creating the Institute, we have to set the price of green leaves at the end of March, and at the end of September, a price that will govern the raw material of green leaves and canchada for the next six months,” explained the head of INMY on the award.
He added that “this price must be unanimously approved by the 12 directors, one for the Nation, one for the province of Misiones, another for Corrientes, representatives of producers, dryers, mills, cooperatives and workers.” .
“If a director does not agree, he goes to an award and since there was no agreement, he came to the Nation’s award,” Szychowzki completed.
