This is what the Bishop of La Vega said about the constitutional reform

The Bishop of the Diocese of La Vega, Monsignor Hector Rafael Rodriguezwhile offering his homily for the festivities of the Virgen de Las Mercedes, held at the “Santo Cerro” Sanctuary, said that a constitutional reform must be carried out in a “exclusive”to achieve the independence of justice from political power.

He pointed out that it is not possible that public officials and legislators, after committing acts of corruption when treated in justice, do not receive the punishment they deserve from the law.

“We must prevent the Public Ministry and the judges from being chosen capriciously, self-interestedly, under the sole criteria of the authorities on duty, because they have not wanted to institutionalize it. We cannot allow corruption to permeate all social classes, our institutions by origin they are not corrupt, I congratulate the current public ministry for its fight against corruption, money laundering and drug trafficking,” said Rodríguez.

He added that he supports a Constitutional reform exclusively to establish and guarantee the independence of justice and the Public Ministry.

Penal Code

He also considered the approval of the bill for the new Dominican Penal Code necessary and urgent.

“It is time for this code to be approved, for what?, so that a fair treatment can be given to the various types of crimes that are doing so much damage to our society, and because they are not in the code there are crimes that are not looked at They don’t even touch each other,” said the bishop.

The violence

He assured that it is urgent to seek immediate solutions to the spiral of violence that society is experiencing, or else we would have to live in cages. He suggested strengthening within the family educational models of socialization based on the education of values.

“The climate of violence has been increasing in the country, we have witnessed behavior that I call visceral and they have been undermining the culture of peace in our society.”

Climate change

Another of the religious’s concerns addressed in the homily of the Eucharist was the issue of Climate Change, which has been warned on several occasions by the Secretary General of the UN, who has insisted on the progressive deterioration of the planet due to our actions. , its advance annihilates humanity, he stated.

In that sense, he asked the legislators present to put on the agenda the approval of the bill to convert Loma Miranda into a National Park.

President of the Senate trusts that the new Penal Code will be approved in the current legislature.

The president of the Senate, Eng. Eduardo Estrella, when questioned about the status of the draft law of the Dominican penal code, said that he hopes that it will be approved in congress during the current legislature and promulgated by the executive branch, and respond to the request of the Dominican people.

“That project was approved in two readings in the Senate of the Republic, there was no time in the Chamber of Deputies, it was reintroduced again because it is one of the important projects, the spirit that exists is to already have a Penal Code as expected the Dominican people.
