This is what Abinader said about the increase in wages

The president of the Republic, Luis Abinadershowed this Wednesday afternoon his delight at the minimum wage increase announced by the National Wage Committee (CNS) for the non-sectorized sector after several meetings. He said that said increase was the product of consensus among the sectors that make up the body.

The agreed increase was 19% to be applied in two items, the first being next April, with 15%. The remaining 4% will be paid in February 2024.

The president stated that since he assumed the Executive Branch it was in his interest to promote a “real” salary increase for workers, a fact that he now calls a positive achievement for the purchasing power of workers and the best for the population.

“In the first days of the Government, I met with the union sector and told them that one of the objectives of our government would be to increase the real salary of workers and we have been doing it, not to the extent that we want, but we have been doing it “Luis AbinaderRepublic President

The president spoke after concluding the sixth meeting of the National Wage Committee (CNS), in which Celso Juan Marranzini, president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), representing the employer sector, was present; Rafael (Pepe) Abreu, from the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CNUS), representing the labor sector, and Luis Miguel De Camps, Minister of Labor, on behalf of the government and as the moderating entity responsible for compliance with the law for the labor sector.

He estimated that the increase is more valuable taking into account the difficult times with which he has governed and cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, “which increased the main raw materials.”

“Even in these difficult times we have increased real wages, as Luis Miguel has just pointed out, I never repeat to the extent that we want, but we have done it so that the purchasing power, which is the most important thing they must have our workers and our population, does not deteriorate and, on the contrary, increases a little”, he said.

He indicated that the percentage increased to salaries “it is the most convenient” not for employers, workers or the government, but because is what the current situation allows.

Congratulate the Minister of Labor

During his speech, the Head of State congratulated the Labor Minister, Luis Miguel De Camps, for the role he played during the negotiations to materialize the salary increase.

“I want to congratulate Minister Luis Miguel De Camps García, his entire work team, because the truth is that they have done an extraordinary job in what the Ministry of Labor should be and should be, which is to be a referee, defender of the law, in this case seek consensus and, really… so congratulations, minister,” he said while those present applauded.

He estimated that the official played a fundamental role so that “the law was fulfilled.”
